Nature As Healer, Bringing Ecotherapy into Practice Safely & Effectively
Overview
This workshop will examine the therapeutic benefits of nature. Participants will investigate the human relationship with the natural world, explore the historical context and core principles of nature connection, and consider how this perspective fosters a safety and support. The session will review scientific evidence supporting nature-based interventions as viable alternatives to the traditional Western medical model. Additionally, the workshop will highlight the longstanding use of nature connection in navigating internal experiences through rituals and spirituality. Practical strategies will be provided for integrating nature connection into both outdoor and indoor practices. Creative exercises aimed at facilitating healing and trauma integration through engagement with nature will also be included. Recognizing that nature is not merely an intervention but an essential part of our existence, the workshop will further explore how nature can assist practitioners and clients in discovering existential truths about what it means to be human, particularly in a world where human-constructed systems sometimes appear to have lost sight of their own humanity.

Lee White
Lee White is a qualified Forest Therapy Guide and Integrative Counsellor, specialising in helping people heal from trauma and move through psychological distress using nature and creativity. He discovered the power of nature connection whilst counselling people with complex mental health issues in London. He began to use London’s green spaces as his therapy room and discovered that clients were often more able to engage in the process when in nature. This prompted Lee to do further training around working with nature as a therapeutic intervention. He has continued to facilitate therapy in London’s green spaces for individuals and groups. He also facilitates trauma informed supervision and training for mental health professionals.
