On this course you will strengthen your bond with nature as co-therapist, and learn skills to deepen your therapeutic practice outdoors.

About this event

This is a hands-on experiential course, delivered online and in person. This training will develop your skills to support the holistic development of the client groups and individuals you work with outside.

Saturday 27th August, 10am - 4pm, in person @ The Yoga Barn, Glasgow

Sunday 28th August, 10am - 1pm, @ The Yoga Barn, Glasgow

Tuesday 5th September, 6pm - 8pm, online

What’s in the course?

- What nature-based practice means and what to consider for your locations

- Embodiment Play

- Exploration of nature as co-therapist

- Meaning of attachment to place in nature based settings

- Understanding the core principles of nature based Play Therapy

- Effective communication with children and participants with social and emotional needs

- Relevance of child centred and child led play in outdoor settings

- Setting appropriate boundaries for the setting and for the model

- Managing containment

- Managing confidentiality

This is delivered as a two day, in-person course with one online session, to a total of 11 hours teaching time, and expected 4 hours of self study. Your ticket includes in person training at 10am - 4pm on 27th August and 10am - 1pm on 28th August 2022, plus online zoom seminar 6pm - 8pm on 5th September.

- Psychotherapists

- Speech and language therapists

- Or those with an equivalent therapeutic arts training

Our August 2022 training will take place in the beautiful surroundings of Pollok Country Park on the south side of Glasgow. The indoor venue is a warm, light spacious room, and you can see more of it here

Parts of the days trainings will be taking place in the woodlands nearby, so please come dressed for all weathers with comfy sturdy boots and be prepared to get a little muddy!

Your ticket also includes warm buffet lunch on the Saturday and cold lunch to finish on the Sunday. Please advise us of any dietary requirements on booking.

Your tutors for August 2022 : Shuna Mercer

Shuna is a BAPT registered nature based Play Therapist and a clinical supervisor has been running her own private practice for 18 years. She has recently studied Children in Permaculture and is a Forest School Leader. She took her practice out into nature 9 years ago and this has deepened her work with the children and young people she works with.

Your tutors for August 2022 : Sophie Kyle

Sophie is an independent forest school leader and a tutor on Scotland’s Forest and Outdoor Learning Awards. She is a co-worker at Propagate CIC where the team develop initiatives across the Central Belt to increase community-led food growing opportunities. She is the chair of the Glasgow Region OWL group and a business coach for artists and holistic therapists.
