About this event

Are you interested in nature, wildlife and the environment? How do you use local green spaces? What aspects of nature do you value most locally and why? Join us for a workshop to look at how we can protect and support nature and wildlife in our area.

Whether you’re already a dedicated nature enthusiast, you are interested to find out more, or if there’s something you think that’s missing, Sodbury Town Council would love to hear from you!

What’s happening?

As part of our Local Nature Action Plan, Sodbury Town Council are committed to supporting nature recovery locally, and improving opportunities for local residents to get to know it better. This workshop will offer an opportunity to share your ideas and help make that a reality.

At the event, you will work with other members of your local community to put forward your recommendations on how we can best support nature in our area. These recommendations will feed into our Local Nature Action Plan which sets out the Town Council's aims for nature recovery locally.

Why is this important?

We all rely on nature such as woodlands, rivers, land and sea to give us food, water and support our health and wellbeing. Nature also supports a wide economy, places for sports, our gardens and places to visit. Sodbury parish has a diverse range of green spaces and an array of wildlife that calls it home, but we know that there is also plenty of room for improvement.

Nature is most important to the community that surrounds it, so it is vital that the community has a say in how it is looked after. The discussions at the workshop will help the parish council develop a deeper understanding of issues and barriers facing residents and help identify opportunities for the future.

This is your chance to get involved and have your voice heard!

Do I need to be knowledgeable about nature?

No! We want to hear from a wide variety of individuals. We understand the value of everyone’s opinion. On the day participants will be provided all the information they need to make valuable contributions.

How do I get involved?

Everyone from across the town or parish is welcome to take part. We are keen to hear from residents of all ages, but please note under 16s must be accompanied be an adult. The workshop is free to attend, but please book a ticket via Eventbrite as space is limited.

What will happen on the day?

We will explore what is happening in our local environment, how members of our community currently engage with wildlife and nature and what issues they may face in doing so. We will also look at some inspiring projects taking place in other parishes locally.

Once we have explored some of the issues and possibilities, you will collaborate with other participants to discuss what is important to you and what the parish can do to support local nature and community engagement with nature recovery. The group(s) will come up with priorities on what we can do in our local area.

These recommendations will then be presented to members of Sodbury Town Council for inclusion in the Local Nature Action Plan.

There is no need to have prior knowledge of the topics or issues discussed, as all relevant information will be provided on the day of the workshop.

Will refreshments be provided?

Refreshments will be provided during the workshop session.
