Creativity Walk - Nature in the everyday

Join artist Lucie Smith for a two-hour creative, mindful and informative walk beginning at Hamble Railway Station. This guided walk follows a public footpath through nearby fields to Hound Cemetery. On route participants will explore and identify common plants, learning about their surprising uses and the value of so-called ‘weeds’.

Lucie will provide sketchbooks and drawing materials, encouraging participants to observe plants closely and record their findings through drawing and note-taking and photography along the way. The focus is less on creating a ‘perfect’ drawing and more on documenting what we see, which is a unique process for everyone.

The walk is relaxed, with frequent stops for discussion, sketching, and reflection. It will conclude back at Hamble Railway Station. This experience blends art, nature, and floral insight in an engaging and accessible way.

On the day

Attendees are advised to travel by train, bus, cycle or walk due to limited parking.

The closest bus stops can be found on Hamble Lane, served by the Bluestar 15 Bluestar 15 timetable and Stagecoach 49H Stagecoach 49H timetable.

Those driving can park near Hound Cemetery and walk to the meeting point.

The walk is a total of 2 hours to include time for walking to and from the Station and plenty of time to explore nature along the route.

Please wear suitable walking shoes and bring along:

a bottle of water

a bag to take home sketchbooks

Camera or phone

an umbrella, waterproofs or sunhat/suncream (depending on the weather).

anything else that’ll make you feel more comfortable.

We will end the walk back at Hamble station.

Please Note:

Walk grade: Medium

Who should attend: Adults and children over 7years old. Sorry pets are not allowed to join a led walk unless they are a guide or assistance dog.

Child friendly: Yes 7 years plus, children under 18 attending any of the activities must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Walk distance: 2.5km

Facilities: There are no toilets at Hamble Station or along the walk.

Access: Most of the route will be along public footpaths, made and unmade, where surfaces may be uneven. Due to staggered gates the walk will not be accessible for wheelchair users or people with pushchairs. Some gentle slopes, seating with backs or armrests in ther cemetery.

About the Artist

Lucie is a conceptual artist, educator and researcher based in Southampton. Through art she explores innate connections between the human condition and the landscape. She believes deeply in the healing power of nature.

Lucie is currently studying a Masters in Contemporary Art and Archaeology with the University of the Highlands. Ongoing research explores ancestral lineage, narratives of women lost in the archives and the ways in which the ‘in-between’ of past and present can be materialised.

Lucie works with communities, organisations and individuals around Hampshire. She studied her BA in Fine Art at Arts University Plymouth and regularly exhibits in Hampshire and beyond.
