Frequently asked questions

Who is running this event?

The event will be run by staff from Dorset Heaths Partnership (DHP) and BCP Council Countryside Ranger team.

What age range is this group suited to?

We would suggest ages 2 - 4 and if you also have a baby, they can come too.

What will a typical session involve?

Each session will always have circle time with a song or story, a craft activity and a walk (pushchair ride) out on site. Each week will have a different theme.

Where exactly is the visitor centre?

You will find the location of the visitor centre at https://w3w.co/inches.towns.rungs. It is approximately a 5 minute walk from the car park.

Where should I park?

Parking is available in the main Hengistbury Head car park, on the Broadway, BH6 4EN. Parking charges apply, paid using card, phone or online/app. We recommend paying for more than an hour. https://www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/parking/find-a-car-park/hengistbury-head-car-park

Are we likely to walk far?

Depending on the planned activity, we envisage some walking will be involved. For this reason, we highly recommend bringing a pushchair to save little legs from tiring.

Can we leave our children with you for the duration of the session?

A parent or guardian should be present with the children throughout the session, we can't allow children to be left alone.

Can I bring my dog?

Unfortunately for the safety of the group of small children and differing tolerances to animals, we can't allow dogs to join the group.

What will happen in wet weather?

We will still meet at the visitor centre, but we will move indoors.

Will the group be held somewhere accessible?

For the most part, our activities will be all on the flat but we may visit parts of the nature reserve that are less suited to wheelchairs. If you wish to check for a specific session, please call the visitor centre on 01202 128444 to check what the activities are likely to be.

Are there baby changing facilities?

There are baby changing facilities in the toilet upstairs in the visitor centre, nearby to the session.
