About this event

Travel & Outdoor

Peak Outdoor Coaching offer women-only hikes in and around the Peak District. This walk is perfect for anyone who wants to embrace the changing weather and get excited about autumn.

We’ll explore the area around Agden Reservoir, on the outskirts of Sheffield and the Peak District. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for fungi and other autumnal wonders. For our trig baggers, we’ll also head up Emlin to bag this outlying trig point.

Come along and nerd out about nature with like-minded women!

Distance: 6.8 miles/ 11km

Elevation: 1,360ft/ 415m

Level of difficulty: Moderate - Mostly easy footpaths with some uneven, potentially muddy ground. Some uphill sections and stiles to climb.

Time: 4-5 hours

Who will be your guide?

I’m Emma, an ambassador for Peak Outdoor Coaching and I’m a Hill and Moorland Leader based in Sheffield. I've always loved spending time outside but my love for the outdoors has grown even more since I started learning about the nature, folklore and history of the areas I explore. I love to share my enthusiasm and knowledge of the outdoors and help others take the first steps to find joy and connection in nature.

Transport:

We'll be meeting outside Low Bradfield public toilets at 9.45am.

Bradfield Public Toilets, Bradfield Village Hall, The Sands, Low Bradfield, Sheffield S6 6LB (https://maps.app.goo.gl/T4Ga98RRNdJP3tri8)

There is free parking at The Sands car park as well as on the roads surrounding the village hall playing field. These spaces do fill up quickly though so please arrive with plenty of time to grab on and walk over to the toilets.

The Sands, Low Bradfield, Sheffield S6 6LA (https://maps.app.goo.gl/wRaHHtUdhjSWSFiw8)

There are a couple of bus stops nearby served by the 61, 62, 760 and 762 buses.

Lift sharing may be an option so please get in touch if you would like to be added to the group chat.

What to bring:

  • Hiking boots or trail shoes with ankle support
  • Snacks/lunch
  • Rucksack
  • Water (at least 1L)
  • Waterproofs and warm layers
  • Hat and gloves
  • Sun hat/sun cream
  • Walking Poles (optional)
  • A small first aid kit with any personal medication

Terrain:

A mix of well-paved footpaths, uneven ground and potentially muddy sections. We will be walking through moorland up to Emlin trig point and some sure footed-ness may be required. You will be fully supported through this section if needed.

Toilets:

There are public toilets at the start point but none along the way so we may have to embrace the good old ‘wild wees’ whilst we’re out!

Safety:

The whole point of the walk is to be an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone so we will keep to a steady pace to suit the group. It's about taking in the views, learning about the area and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety and with all outdoor activities, there can be risks involved. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on this walk, please either consult your doctor or let me know your concerns. Please inform me of any medical conditions prior to the walk.

I am a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader and I am level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so I will be on hand in case of an emergency.

Dogs:

Dogs are currently not allowed onto Emlin moor to protect moorland birds so sadly our fluffy friends won’t be able to join us this time.

Refund Policy:

Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled. If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let me know if you do so.

And FINALLY:

This walk will be going ahead whatever the weather, unless I deem the conditions dangerous so be ready to embrace the good old British weather! If I do have to cancel the walk for safety reasons, I will suggest one more date for the walk to be rearranged or you can redeem your ticket on one other walk on a date suitable to you.
