Event description

Description

Nausea is a new play, inspired by Jean-Paul Sartre's novel "La Nausee" (sort of).

Imagine ... it's a normal day in a normal cafe in a normal town. You're having your usual drink, the rest of the coffee shop regulars are having the same thing they drink every day. It's all completely normal.

You look at the window and think to yourself, 'some lazy bugger needs to clean that glass.' Except that you didn't think it to yourself. You said it out loud. 'Oops,' you hear yourself saying, 'I didn't mean to say that.' You clamp your hand over your mouth, eyes wide. You look around the coffee shop, and the rest of the patrons look similarly horrified, as their innermost thoughts come pouring out of their mouths. The staff, too, are afflicted, and now you're going to find out what they really think about their customers. 'Oh my God,' you mumble into your hand, 'this is going to get ugly ...'

Set in a typical British coffee shop over one day, or possibly two days, or possibly no days, NAUSEA is absolutely not a raw slice of life drama about wage slavery and capitalism, and neither is it a moving play about death, gender and identity in Brexit Britain. It's not about coffee, either. And it is one hundred percent unsuitable for under-18s or the easily offended.
