The UK healthcare sector is continuously looking for innovative medtech solutions that can address their unmet clinical needs.

About this Event

With the medical devices market estimated to be worth £10+ billion (UK) in 2021, there is enough support for UK Medtech companies to prosper. During the webinar, the National Institute of Health Research, Innovate UK, Kent Surrey Sussex AHSN, EEN, KTN and DIT will outline how companies can navigate the Medtech landscape of support that is available to British and European innovative Medtech companies. This covers areas from research and development, funding initiatives, clinical trials or investigations to commercialising medical technologies.

The speakers and the Q&A session will cover:

• What the UK government is doing to support the Medtech sector in the UK when developing, collaborating, commercialising their devices in the UK and internationally.

• Opportunities to collaborate with the UK’s leading clinicians and academics to support the development of new innovations.

• How the NIHR can support Medtech companies - i.e. generate evidence within the health system (connect to expertise, collaborations, setup trials, funding, data, patients, samples etc)

• How to access many of the UK’s R&D funding programmes.

• How international Medtech companies can start operating in the UK.

The National Institute for Health Research

The NIHR supports the global Medtech sector access the UK’s research and health system. As a leading destination for clinical research, the NIHR can support life science companies generate the required clinical and economic evidence to progress the development of their new Medtech products towards market. They can work with Medtech companies at any stage of clinical development pipeline by supporting companies:

• Gain access to expertise: introduction to leading academic and clinical researchers across the UK's Health System and universities; with expertise across a very broad range of disease and technology areas.

• Setup collaborations with UK researchers around experimental medicine / translational research; either evaluating new therapies or technologies in the health system or to gain deeper insights into disease mechanisms.

• Setup and manage both commercial contract and collaborative clinical research across the health system. They offer early feasibility, site and investigator identification, setup and trial performance management.

• Gain access to other research provisions; including data (research and health), access to patients, access to clinical samples or access to facilities/research techniques.

• Access a variety of funding programmes to help finance research.

The Academic Health Science Networks (AHSN)

The Academic Health Science Networks are the bodies that connect NHS and academic organisations, local authorities, the third sector and industry. There are 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) across England, established by NHS England to spread innovation at pace and scale – improving health and generating economic growth. Each AHSN works across a distinct geography serving a different population in each region.

Department of International Trade

The Department for International Trade (DIT), helps businesses export, drives inward and outward investment, negotiates market access and trade deals, and champions free trade. DIT also help overseas companies locate and grow in the UK.
