Navigating Envy, Attack, and Vulnerability in the Transferences
Overview
The therapeutic space includes encountering vulnerability, fantasies, and tragedies. Within this is the tender and fragile, shy parts of the self. The need to understand the past and present emotional gaps brings people into psychotherapy. Yet, for the envier, often hiding their rage and hurt at first, impasse takes over the analysis and freezes the change process that could evolve from the transferences. The grievances and subsequent attacks on the process, the therapist, and everything else have the effect of displacing attention from the personal wounds. How we cope with this situation is a conundrum for many in the therapeutic and analytical fields.
