A series of Tuesday nights to equip parents and carers to build strong families



COURSE 1: Building Strong Families


Location: The Hub, Chertsey Road, Addlestone, KT15 2EP
Date: Tuesday 17th & 24th September 2019
Time: 7PM - 9PM with break for refreshments


Navigating the ups and downs of family life can be tricky, with no two days the same. This session is aimed at helping you parent your 0-11 year old children in a way that builds strong and stable families. This practical course includes; understanding your children’s love languages, discovering the different stages of parenting, how to discipline with love, and how your children are wired and motivated. Whether you have it all together or you’re at your wit’s end, this course promises to help strengthen your family.

  • Stages of parenting

  • Children's love languages

  • Disciplining your children with love

  • How your children are wired/motivated


Ps Mark and Monica Collard

Along with a great team, Mark & Monica lead Equippers Church Surrey and have a wealth of experience and knowledge in the art of parenting. They have four children of their own and are passionate about supporting others in their journey of parenting.



COURSE 2: Overcoming Depression and Anxiety


Location: The Hub, Chertsey Road, Addlestone, KT15 2EP
Date: Tuesday 1st & 8th October 2019
Time: 7PM - 9PM with break for refreshments


Mental health is a massive issue in today’s society, with many people struggling with some level of anxiety and depression. We believe that it doesn’t have to stay that way and are committed to be part of the solution. In these sessions, you’ll get an understanding of why you may be feeling the way you are, learn more about ‘brain health’, and receive some practical tools to start to overcome anxiety and depression.

Topics covered:

  • Why we get depressed or anxious

  • Understanding ‘brain health’

  • Overcoming depression and anxiety

  • Dealing with Insomnia


Dr. Lavanya Dua

Dr. Lavanya Dua is a medically qualified doctor and was a GP for over 20 years. She is passionate about helping people find emotional and physical healing, as well as gaining freedom from anxiety, depression and negative mindsets.



COURSE 3: Parent First Aid Training


Location: The Hub, Chertsey Road, Addlestone, KT15 2EP
Date: Tuesday 15th October 2019
Time: 7PM - 9PM with break for refreshments


This two-hour first aid training is perfect for parents-to-be, moms and dads who want to become more confident in dealing with emergency situations, grandparents, or anyone who takes care of children! The training environment is fun, interactive and relaxed - with lots of opportunity to practice, share experiences and time to answer all your questions.

Topics covered:

  • Unresponsive casualty

  • Recovery position

  • CPR (for all ages)

  • Choking

  • Seizures and infantile convulsions

  • Bleeding and shock


Pooja Vaswaney

Pooja Vaswaney is the business owner of Nova Stellar Training and she has worked for various multinational companies and one of the largest first aid training providers in the UK. She is now a qualified first aid instructor.




COURSE 4: SEN-Course

Location: The Hub, Chertsey Road, Addlestone, KT15 2EP
Date: Tuesday 5th & 12th November 2019
Time: 7PM - 9PM with break for refreshments
Max. number: 50 people

PART 1: Communication Development

Parenting children with Special Education Needs can, at times, be overwhelming, especially without the right tools and techniques. We want to equip you with skills and understanding so you can see your kids progress in their learning. This session all about communication; we’ll look at stages of development, the importance of play, and communication in learning.

Topics covered:

  • Introduction to Early Development (0-5 years)

  • Communication Development

  • The Natural Model of Communication Learning

  • Receptive Language Development

  • Fundamentals of Communication (Intensive Interaction)

  • Play and Communication Development

Riana Jackson

Riana is a highly qualified SEND teacher and has extensive experience in working with children who have complex learning difficulties. Riana is most passionate about working with children with complex learning needs and their families by enabling them to reach their full potential, with a particular focus on supporting their communication development.


PART 2: Sensory Processing


As a following on from our first session on parenting children with Special Education Needs, in this session you will learn about Sensory Processing. Often children with SEN struggle with sensory overload and find it hard to process the world around them. We’ll take an overview of Sensory Processing before diving into more detail and leaving you with some strategies and more information about how to move forward.

  • The 8 Sensory Systems

  • Sensory Processing Difficulties

  • Sensory Modulation, Reactivity and Dyspraxia

  • When and where should I get help?

Signe van Deventer

Signe is a highly skilled Occupation Therapist with an invaluable amount of tools to share with the children and families that she works with. Signe is most passionate about working with children and values coming alongside families, teachers and other multi-disciplinary team members to maximise every individual child’s potential.
