Description

Learn all the skills you need to navigate your way around the mountains with confidence, having fun.

You'll spend the whole day with us focussing on navigation, reading a map and what matters to you. You won't need the GPS by the time we're done.

This workshop will teach you map reading and how to navigate around the mountains. Get to know how to take a bearing and measure distances accurately, what map symbols mean and how to feel the lay of the land, to know where you are and how to get to where you want to be efficiently.

Map scales & symbols

Grid references

Open access and 'where you're allowed'

Measuring distance - pacing & timing

The compass & taking a bearing

Hand rails, catching features, attack points & aiming off

Understanding contour lines

Route planning & Naithsmith's Rule

Emergency procedures and 'getting the hell out of Dodge'
