Description

UPDATE Sunday 12 November: We've released a few more tickets today for each author session for anyone who has just found out about Gala Day. If your chosen session is fully booked, please still come along, there are lots of drop in activities and there are always people who book tickets and don't show on the day, so we might be able to squeeze you into a session.

Meet your favourite authors and illustrators in The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, in South Shields on Saturday 18 November. Many sessions will also take place across the road in the beautiful St Hilda’s Church.

Gala Day has something for everyone aged 4 – 13. There will be free, fun, interactive family sessions with award winning authors, illustrators and story tellers, including Vivian French, Ian Whybrow, The 2 Steves, Korky Paul, Nick Sharratt, Paul Cookson, Jonny Duddle, Piers Torday, Steve Webb & Chris Mould, Dan Smith, Adam Bushnell & Liz Million and Kate Fox.

You can

  • meet our authors and illustrators in our free family sessions
  • be part of the panel game Tell Me a Story
  • join the free drop in storytelling and craft sessions provided by the regional library services
  • explore The Word, from tracking ships on the river Tyne or watching 3D printing in FabLab to discovering everything you need to know about pirates!
  • book places for performance-led storytelling in StoryWorld or artist workshops where you can make a memento of the day

Tickets for author and illustrator sessions are free but must be booked in advance.

Drop in storytelling and NCBF library services crafts are free.

There will be a nominal charge for artist workshops and performance led storytelling in Storyworld. For more details about the full programme go to www.northernchildrensbookfestival.org.uk.

All the authors and illustrators will be signing copies of their books in the pop-up bookshop run by Blackwell's in The Word and after sessions in St Hilda’s Church.

Booking tickets for Storyworld sessions - please use this link to book your tickets for the interactive story telling in Storyworld http://theworduk.org/whats-on/interactive-storytelling/.

There'll also be free drop in story telling with Kudzai Pasirayi.

Booking tickets: Parents and carers do need to book tickets for all the author sessions so we can manage room capacities. Parents and carers do not need to book tickets for themselves for the illustration, creative writing and artist workshops.

Age suitability is listed for each session. There will be drop in activities and storytelling available for younger children where a session might not be age appropriate for them. Please ask at the Reception desk on arrival for further details.

Please note: some session times may be subject to change. If this does happen, we will advise ticket holders as soon as we can.

BSL / English Interpreter We've always had a BSL/English Interpreter at Gala Day for Deaf members of the audience. If you would benefit from having an interpreter in the sessions you’re attending, please let us know. We can’t guarantee we can provide an interpreter at every session for which one is requested, but if you let us know which author you’re coming to see, we’ll let you know if it’s possible. For further details, please email info@northernchildrensbookfestival.org.uk or contact us through our Facebook page, Northern Children’s Book Festival.

Donations: NCBF is committed to keeping as much as possible of the Gala Day programme free to ensure ensuring families from any background can be involved in this exciting and inspiring day.

NCBF is a small charity and every year we have the challenge of raising all our funds from trusts, foundations and corporate sponsors. Many children’s book festivals charge anything from £2 - £10 per person per session. If you feel you would like to make a donation for your Gala Day tickets, all donations are invaluable and will be very gratefully received on the day. Every penny counts and all the money we raise goes towards covering the costs of Gala Day and other exciting projects to engage schools and communities which may otherwise not have access to the inspiring experience of meeting the creators of their favourite books.

Thank you.
