Event description


This conference is for early years professionals who want to:

  • expand their knowledge of the challenges facing deaf children

  • gain new insights into how to develop services that meet deaf children's needs

  • share best practice and find opportunities to collaborate

  • debate about policy and best practice for working with deaf children

  • network with other Early Years professionals

Who should attend

The conference is open to all Early Years and other relevant professionals, including nursery teachers, nursery nurses, child minders, health visitors, Teachers of the Deaf, audiologists, policy-makers and academics, or anyone whose job involves working with or developing policies or managing services for deaf children under the age of five.

What you’ll learn

The morning session covers:

  • how the Government’s early years policy framework impacts on deaf children

  • what the future holds for early years agendas and policy initiatives

  • what best practice in early years provision and pathways looks like

  • how to ensure the best outcomes for deaf children’s language and communication development

The afternoon session features workshops on:

  • understanding your role in Education, Health and Care plans

  • how support for deaf children is funded in Early Years

  • what the Equality Act means in practice for your work with deaf children

  • simple things you can do to make sure deaf children can make good progress in language and communication

  • understanding what deaf children can and cannot hear

  • creating good listening conditions in early years settings

  • what assistive technology works for early years settings

  • preparing deaf children for early years settings

Communication and access

There will be BSL Interpreters at the event, palantypists and a hearing loop. However, we do need to know if you require communication support for the afternoon workshops - please let us know when you register your attendance.The venue has full ramp and lift access, accessible WCs as well as parking for blue-badge holders (please see FAQ's below for more information about parking). How to activate the promotional discount

When you select tickets, choose the amount you wish to purchase from the drop down. In the top right hand corner you will see a hyperlink called 'Enter promotional code', click on this and then enter EM86 to receive £35 off the standard rate cost of £160 (available until 12 May).

Will my special dietary needs be catered for?

Vegetarian options will be provided for, please detail any special requests when registering your attendance.

What are my transport / parking options for getting to and from the event?

If travelling by train:

Conference Aston is a 10 minute walk from mailine train stations in Birmingham; New Street, Snow Hill and Moor Street. There is an interactive walking map on the Conference Aston website.

If travelling by car:

Please download the travel guide from the Aston Conference Centre website.

Car parking

There is a car park onsite, however you must book in advance of the event. You can do this on the Aston Conference website (cost £7.95).

If there are no car parking spaces available, or if you don't book a space at Conference Aston in advance you can park at the overflow car park at Millenium Point (cost £5.80).

General election

The Government have called a General Election on 8 June 2017. You can still attend our conference and vote, here's how;

Can I give my place to a friend or colleague if I can't come?

Yes, however this is only available until 11th May. Please contact us at training@ndcs.org.uk

What if I need to cancel?

In the event the

  • Delegate cancels 20 working days or less before the planned date, a charge of 100% of the total cost will be made

  • Delegate cancels 21 - 30 working days before the planned date, a charge of 50% will be made

  • Delegate cancels 31 working days before the planned date, no charge will be made.

What are the payment options?

You can pay for attendance with credit/debit card, invoice or by cheque. When you are registering your attendance, please indicate how you would like to pay under the 'Payment' section, there is a drop down box of options.
