Which is being held at the

Private London Civil Service Club with 3 Course served Lunch

NEA’s Professional Development Day 2018 is aimed at Teachers of Vocational Qualifications and those undertaking NEA Teaching Diplomas. It is not necessary to be a registered NEA teacher to attend and NEA would welcome everyone who is interested.

This year’s development day is aimed at developing creative flow, and learning to understand our voices, for ourselves and our students, with inspirational ideas and resources. It will be dynamic, challenging, educational and fun.

NEA hope teachers will feel energised, focussed and prepared for the year ahead and delegates will receive a certificate of attendance on completion of the day.

09:30 am - Arrival and Registration

Teas, coffees, Danish pastries and croissants on arrival.

10:00 am - Launch of the NEA Syllabus for 2018-2021

NEA are proud to launch their updated Syllabus for 2018-2021 and will, at the Professional Development Day run through and review the changes throughout, as well as introduce their new Creative Movement Exams.

Within the Shakespeare Examinations, characters can now be played by either gender.

NEA are also set to launch another set of Group Examinations, which will follow an enhanced marking structure.

11:30 am - Launch of the Creative Movement Examinations through an Interactive Taster Training Session - Presented by Tina Doyle

A short dynamic workshop on creative movement, what it means to the actor and how to teach the new Creative Movement syllabus.

12:00 pm - Vocal Workshop – Presented by Jane Boston - BA, MA, ADVS, DLT

Jane is a voice practitioner, actor trainer, researcher, performer, poet, singer and guitarist with extensive international experience as a voice consultant and trainer, feminist theatre performer and actor trainer in conservatoires, theatre companies and businesses in Japan, Colombia, Argentina, Romania, Australia, the US and the UK.

Jane’s research is about the perception of vocal sound in the body and its links to gender, the relational experience and the enablement of access to public platforms. Jane has interests in the documentation of voice in the history of theatre practice in Western Europe and the USA, intergenerational feminist music performance and the poetics and embodied reading of Elizabeth Bishop’s work.

Jane received her BA in English and American Studies at the University of Sussex, an MA in Women’s Studies at the University of Kent, an Advanced Diploma in Voice Studies (ADVS) at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and the Kristin Linklater teacher designation in 2015 (DLT).

2:30 pm - Creative Learning Workshop - Presented by Perform for Schools

Perform will host a workshop which will help teachers use drama as a creative way of teaching across the curriculum. It provides a set of skills, best practices and resources. The workshop includes detailed information, advice and examples of physical and vocal warm-ups, ice-breaker games, control commands, role-play improvisation exercises and movement expression.
