Were Neanderthals religious?

Join us for an seminar with Dr Thomas Hughson SJ, exploring insights from his recent book Neanderthal Religion? Theology in Dialogue with Archaeology.

Drawing on archaeology, anthropology, and theology, Dr Hughson will reflect on whether Neanderthals, our co-human relatives, had forms of spirituality and religious practice.

Could their hunter-gatherer animism be understood as an early, non-verbal revelation of the divine?

This lecture will interest anyone working in or curious about theology, philosophy, anthropology, archaeology, and questions of human origins!

📖 Speaker: Dr Thomas Hughson SJ, Associate Professor Emeritus of Theology at the Marquette University
