Description

Blue Smile Skills in the Room

‘Negotiating Boundaries or Reinforcing Borders?’ A workshop on Inter-cultural Creative Practice

Trainer: Dr Ditty Dokter FPC, UKCP, HCPC, BADth, ADMPUK

The workshop aims to support practitioners to work interculturally.

It draws on intercultural good practice guidelines to assist counsellors/therapists in exploring their own cultural background. Using a variety of creative media, the emphasis will be on story/myth and embodiment. In a context of global migration, this workshop will focus on the outcomes of research completed about intercultural therapy practice. Can we aim for a more fluid mix of identities, or do we become stuck in a conflict of loyalties? Can we negotiate boundaries or do we reinforce borders?

Learning objectives

- To support counsellors/therapists to work interculturally using Intercultural good practice guidelines

- To explore participants’ own cultural background

- To explore how this background interacts with similarities and differences from those of their clients
