Liam Connell (LSE): Colonising Colony: New Zealand's Dreams of Pacific Empire

Liam Connell is a doctoral candidate in International History at LSE. He received his MSc in International Relations from LSE and an MPhil in Creative Writing from Trinity College Dublin. He also holds a Ba in History from the University of Sydney and a BA in History/Classics from the University of Canterbury.

Giulia Garbagni (University of Cambridge): The Extra-Institutional Foreign Policy of Postwar Japan: Special Envoy Kawashima and Tokyo's Mediation in the Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation (1963-66)

Giulia Garbagni is a doctoral candidate in Japanese Studies from the University of Cambridge with a project entitled, 'A Non-Institutional Diplomatic History of Japan: Tokyo’s “Envoy Diplomacy” in the Early Postwar Era’. She received an MSc in Modern Japanese Studies from the University of Oxford and a Double MSc in International Affairs from LSE and Peking University. She undertook her BA degree in History at the University of Bologna.
