‘An evening with Neil Kinnock’
Dear friends and colleagues,
We are delighted to present Neil Kinnock as part of the Public Policy lecture series of events at the University of Bedfordshire. The evening will comprise of a relaxed discussion between Lord Kinnock and the Vice Chancellor concluding in a Question and Answer session with audience participation encouraged.
Lord Kinnock was an MP from 1970 until 1995 and the Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition from 1983 until 1992. During his time as Leader, the Party increased support by three million votes but he resigned the leadership in 1992 after defeat by 21 seats in the General Election. In 1995 he was appointed to be a member of the European Commission with the portfolio for Land, Sea and Air Transport and Trans-European Networks. In 1999 he was promoted to be Vice-President with the Reform, Internal Audit, Linguistics and Logistics portfolios. From 1998 to 2009 he was President of Cardiff University. On his retirement from the Commission, he was appointed Chair of the British Council 2004 until 2009, having been made a Life Peer in 2005.
