Event description

Description

When Tom Walker inherited a model winding steam engine; inscribed Thomas Greener, Etherley, Durham, 1836, his research found there were in-fact two Thomas Greeners associated with Etherley in 1836. In this talk Tom will discuss the lives of the Greener family, that were involved in the early days of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, and try to establish who made the model and what happened to the model-maker after he departed from Etherley – a tale of riches to rags. The talk will be followed by a demonstration of the model in steam.
