Explanatory Note:

This is a new course, designed to meet the needs of the Mental Health Act 1983, as amended by the Mental Health Act 2007. The full two days forms an introductory course for doctors who have S.12 status and are going on to become an Approved Clinician.

09.40 - Detention and different routes towards Compulsory Care & Treatment (Robert Keys, Mental Health Law Manager)

10.00 - Criteria for Detention & Main Civil Admission Sections (Robert Keys, Mental Health Law Manager)

11.20 - Mental Health Assessments: Case Studies & Group Work (Vincent Perry, Deputy Medical Director, NELFT)

13.00 - Buffet Lunch

14.00 - Capacity & Consent to Treatment: Presentation and Case Studies (Daniel Freeman, Senior Associate Kennedy’s Law Firm)

15.40 - DoLS and its inter-relationship with the Mental Health Act (Chelle Farnan, Clinical Lead, Safeguarding, DoLS and Prevent, NELFT)
