Experimental knitting workshop, combining neon yarns with geometric designs to create a bold statement!

About this event

Workshop content: -

Inspired by Pop Art and the graphic design of protest art, Neon Knitting uses Dayglo yarns to create bold designs using simple techniques:-

  • Knitting stripes, and combining with simple knit & purl patterns
  • Creating open effects with simple fills
  • Adding fabric to knitting and creating your own fabrics using simple mark making techniques.

The session includes a worksheet, knitting demonstrations, plus a PowerPoint presentation to inspire further exploration after the session.

Aimed at anyone with an interest in textiles and soft sculpture, the workshop examines the artistic potential of knitting. The emphasis is on creating experimental samples, rather than a finished piece, although techniques can be adapted to create a garment, accessory or household object.

What attendees will need: -

  • Knitting needles or crochet hooks.
  • Yarns, any will do, but bright and neon colours if you have them.
  • Basic sewing kit, scissors, large eyed needles and embroidery threads.
  • Internet access, with a microphone and webcam. Please only book is you are able to attend in real time.

FAQs

Who is the course aimed at? Adults, wishing to explore the creative potential of knitting for art and sculpture.

What level? Basic knitting skills, including knit & purl stitch, casting on and off.

How will the course be delivered? Online using Microsoft Teams. You will be able to join as a guest, and will be sent a joining link a few days prior to the workshop. The language of instruction will be English.

Cost? The cost of the workshop is £8 per a person, plus an Eventbrite fee.
