NEPACS Parental rights awareness training

This is a 2.5 hour awareness session for all those who may work with a family where a parent is estranged or separated from their children. It looks at the legalities of parental rights and the challenges and barriers parents face in exercising their parental rights and remaining an active parent.

Learning outcomes

  • Be aware of some of the reported benefits of active parenting from both parents
  • Understand what is meant by parental rights and parental responsibilities
  • Understand the legal context of parental rights and responsibilities
  • Understand the barriers to exercising parental rights, particularly for estranged parents or parents in custody
  • Consider the support needs of people who may be struggling to exercise their parental rights
