Nerikomi and Mocha Diffusion Pottery Workshop

By Helen McCormick Ceramics

Overview

Come and join me for a fun day learning how to create your own beautiful Nerikomi and Mocha Diffusion Bowls.

Nerikomi and Mocha Diffusion Pottery Workshop

Hello,
My name is Helen McCormick, and I’m a local ceramic artist and qualified teacher. I’ve been working with clay for 30 years and love sharing my skills and passion with others.

Join me for a relaxed, friendly day of creativity exploring Nerikomi and Mocha Diffusion techniques — two fascinating ways to create intricate surface patterns in clay.

In the morning, you’ll learn how to use a hump mould to make a bowl, which you will decorate in the afternoon with Mocha diffusion. After a short coffee break, you will learn how to make your own coloured clays and experiment with layering and slicing to build up beautiful Nerikomi patterns and create a bowl. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the Mocha Diffusion technique, using pottery stains and vinegar to produce organic, feathery designs on the clay surface of the bowl you made in the morning. By the end of the workshop you will have two beautifully decorated bowls.

No experience needed — just come ready to play with colour, texture, and pattern!

All materials and equipment are provided. Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch and an apron or old clothes.

After the workshop, I’ll take your pieces home to fire and glaze. Your finished work will be ready to collect about six weeks later from the Walronds — I’ll confirm the collection date once everything is ready.

Please note: I can store your work for up to six months after the collection date, after which any uncollected pieces will be donated to charity.
