About this event
Andy Mayer is Chief Operating Officer and Energy Analyst at the IEA. Prior to the IEA, Andy worked as the Head of Public Affairs for BASF plc and on green energy issues for BP plc, in both public affairs and as their head of future trends. He has over 25 years of experience in energy, technology, and policy, typically working the space between industry and Westminster to solve complex problems of uncertainty and risk. He advised the Liberal Democrats on the use of digital technology in public life, reform of the North Sea Fiscal regime to fund low carbon innovation, and the green growth paradox, where pro-climate policies encourage imports not the growth of domestic industry.
He would describe himself as a free marketeer, sceptical environmentalist and climate optimist. Deeply convinced of the need for a cleaner, greener world, deeply unconvinced of many of the policy levers for getting there, but with a high degree of faith in human ingenuity and markets for solving the problems of climate change.
