Description

A one-day course for trainees and consultants wishing to gain confidence in the investigation and management of patients with neuroendocrine tumours in a multidisciplinary setting.

Precourse reading will be distributed approximitely 2 weeks in advance.

9:30-10:45am- 1. How to assess/investigate a NET patient

(a) Symptom evaluation – what’s important?

(b) How to interpret the blood test results

(c) How to interpret the radiology results – which scans for which purpose?

(d) How to interpret the nuclear medicine scan results – which scans for which purpose? Which are most sensitive / specific?

(e) When to request endoscopy and how to interpret the endoscopy results

(f) How to interpret the histopathology report

10.45-11.15am- Coffee

11:15-12:30pm- 2. NET treatment options

(a) Curative surgery/endoscopic resection

(b) Somatostatin analogues (and other medical therapies) for tumour control and for symptom control

(c) Chemotherapy including new and targeted agents

(d) PRRT and MIBG – what is used and why

(e) Locoregional therapies
