Event description

Description

Keynote Speaker: Nicholas Diakopoulos, Assistant Professor of Communication, Northwestern University & @TowCenter fellow

Who should attend: This free event is aimed at those working in journalism education and journalism studies

Data and computational methods have had a large impact on the practice of journalism, and on those who teach, train and research in the field. Open Data, large scale document leaks, and the use of algorithms and machine learning present a new challenge for journalists and those who study the media. It is therefore vital that these skills and technologies are well understood by those entering the field.

This network event aims to link scholars, educators and trainers around these issues to share ideas on how we can study these areas and better train and educate the next generation of journalists and scholars as a result.

As well as invited talks, there will be the opportunity to network and discuss opportunities for collaboration.

A free event, sponsored by the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies

Nicholas Diakopoulos will also be giving a public lecture on Monday January 22, details coming soon.
