Network planning for a zero carbon future - webinar
Event Information
About this Event
The decarbonisation of the energy system is one of the biggest challenges facing our world. At National Grid Electricity System Operator (NGESO), we move electricity round Great Britain’s system to keep homes and businesses supplied with the energy they need 24/7, 365 days a year. That's why we have our own carbon ambitions, as well as committing to the Government's carbon targets.
So how do we achieve this?
Every year, we run a planning cycle that helps us understand how the electricity system needs to evolve to ensure GB's electricity system can continue to deliver a safe and secure supply, whilst meeting carbon targets and delivering the best value for consumers. NGESO’s ambition is to be able to operate a zero-carbon electricity system by 2025. That, alongside our 2050 net zero ambition is a stretching target and we need to work with stakeholders across the industry to solve the challenges we face together to deliver a decarbonised energy future. On this webinar, we’ll discuss four key ESO initiatives that steer us in this direction and offer you opportunities to ask us about them throughout the session. They include:
- The Future Energy Scenarios (FES) tells us what generation and demand looks like based on four different credible scenarios, helping us to determine what future power flows on the electricity network look like.
- The Electricity Ten Year Statement (ETYS) is our view of future transmission requirements and the capability of Great Britain’s National Electricity Transmission System (NETS).
- The Network Options Assessment (NOA) recommends which reinforcement projects on the NETS should receive investment to help us deliver and operate a zero-carbon electricity network.
- Early Competition: we are working with stakeholders looking at how organisations can compete for the design, build and ownership of onshore transmission solutions.
The benefits of a coordinated, collaborative industry approach will be highlighted on our webinar, which we encourage you to attend to find out how you can help us achieve zero carbon.
