Networks of knowledge: Social Histories of Educational Studies and Research
Presented by Professor Gary McCulloch, Brian Simon Professor in History of Education
UCL Institute of Education
This Research Seminar reports on the outcomes of a national project funded by the Society for Educational Studies on the theme of interdisciplinarity in educational studies.
In doing so it provides a socio-historical analysis of the development of education in the academy, the first comprehensive account of its kind. It identifies the key tensions between disciplinarity, multi-disciplinarity and interdisciplinarity in this distinctive and fascinating field, and traces their development not only within university departments of education but also in the context of the networks established through academic societies, journals and conferences to help provide a historical framework for understanding the challenges and opportunities facing educational studies and research in the early 21st century.
