Event description
The Neuro-Developmental approach to supporting hurting children in school with Louise Bombèr.

About this Event

  • Do you work with children and want to be able to support them better?
  • Do you work with young people who feel misunderstood, isolated, secluded and excluded?
  • Do you want to learn how to help your students to regulate themselves better?
  • Do you want to learn how to calm and soothe the minds and bodies of the young people you work with so that they can feel safe and respected in order to learn and grow?

Respected author and therapist Louise Bombér has created a new one day course to address these and many other issues. Join us for this special event.

--------------------------------------------

Who is Louise Bombèr?

Louise is an author, qualified teacher and therapist. She works with pupils, classes, whole school settings, teachers and support staff across primary and secondary phase. Using the developmental trauma framework, her work draws upon attachment theory and intersubjectivity, integrating the principles of PACE and Theraplay.

Louise is the author of several books including 'Inside I'm Hurting', 'What About Me?' and 'Settling Troubled Pupils to Learn' with Dan Hughes.

--------------------------------------------

We all need to learn the art of regulation. We have pupils in our schools who have experienced toxic stress and have faulty neuroception. We need to be resourced up with interventions which calm and soothe minds and bodies.

Felt safety is needed in order to optimise the social engagement system and to take the risks required in learning. Let’s honour how bodies and minds function best and ensure our schools are places whose policies and practices reflect the latest research in neuroscience.

Let the inclusive revolution begin!

--------------------------------------------

Together we will explore the impact that of adverse childhood experiences upon the body & the mind so that we can consider the regulation needs of these pupils in school. We will reflect upon one of the biggest asks for traumatised children - ‘felt safety’.

We will consider the Polyvagal Theory and how significant it is for understanding how children will function best in school. We will discover how we can all support ‘felt safety’, increasing their window of stress tolerance by sensitive, attuned and responsive care.

There will be opportunities to experiment together first using different types of sensory interventions. We will reflect on the importance of respecting biology so that all have the opportunity to function well in the school context. Until we do this many pupils will be at risk of being misunderstood, isolated, secluded and excluded from the very place that could offer them opportunities for growth.

Let’s respect all our pupils have lived and honour what minds and bodies need in order to thrive. Let’s be trauma responsive in our schools.

We can all make a difference and support children and young people into recovery and being in a position to be able to settle to learn.
