About this event

Health • Mental health

Neurodivergent people commonly face difficulties with food and eating, but approaches to addressing disordered eating and eating disorders commonly leave neurodivergent clients feeling no better or even worse.

This workshop considers why challenges with food and eating are so common for neurodivergent people, and provides an opportunity to consider how we can help clients understand their eating to lessen the likelihood of them developing more intrusive and dangerous attitudes to food.

This 3hr introductory workshop is designed to help therapists and other supporting professions to understand the connection between neurodivergence and disordered eating, and how a neuro-affirming approach can reduce the likelihood of biologically driven eating becoming a diagnosed eating disorder.

LEARNING AIMS

  • Understand which eating disorders are common in ADHD and autism
  • Understand how neurodivergent ways of being might facilitate disordered eating.
  • Explore how we might support neurodivergent people experiencing disordered eating

About Aitch

Your trainer will be Aitch Nicol, an AuDHD (autism & ADHD) psychotherapist working mainly with neurodivergent clients and previously trainer in neurodivergence & eating at South Yorkshire Eating Disorder Association.
