Please note that, due to our funding, our workshops are only open to parents/carers/professionals who live or work in South Gloucestershire (or who have a child at school in South Glos).
Your child does not need a diagnosis for you to attend.
Neurodiversity is a term that refers to the natural differences between people.
The idea is that there’s no “correct” way for the brain to work; instead, there are a wide range of ways in which people perceive and respond to the world. It is thought that up to 15% of the population are thought to be neurodivergent.
Your child may have a diagnosis or may be on the pathway for assessment for one of the conditions which fall under the neurodiversity umbrella – eg autism, ADHD.
Sleep is much harder for neurodivergent children and young people for reasons which they cannot control; there are biological differences which get in the way. You may have had advice before, but normal sleep strategies often don’t work and are based on out of date information.
Join Nickie for a workshop on how being neurodivergent affects sleep and what you can do to help (no taking away of screens!). We will look at how sleep works and you will go away with strategies which you can try straight away, with a good understanding of *why* you are trying them and how they work.
Nickie Sutton has been a sleep practitioner since 2016 and works with charities, parent carer forums and professionals all over the country.
She was commissioned by the NHS in Cheshire to set up and run a groundbreaking Therapeutic Sleep Programme for neurodivergent
children and young people with excellent results and feedback. Prior to this Nickie was a nurse for 34 years, most recently working as a
Specialist Community Public Health School Nurse (in Derbyshire), and Autism / ADHD Nurse Specialist. She has lived experience of autism.
This workshop will be recorded.
