About this event
This course is aimed at practitioners from Gwent only who work with people who are neurodiverse and experience trauma. This may include people who are on the autistic spectrum or have ADHD. This course focuses on the trauma related to violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence.
Prerequisites
- Must be working in Gwent. This training is open to all partners, staff and organisations across Gwent.
- Must have completed the Group 3 Ask and Act Training.
Introduction
This course aims to raise awareness of the ways in which trauma may impact people who are neurodiverse and focuses on ways of supporting them more effectively.
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Describe what neurodiversity is;
- Explain what trauma is and the main symptoms of trauma;
- Identify the ways in which neurodiversity may affect how people react to trauma;
- Recognise how neurodiversity and reactions to this may cause trauma;
- Describe how to adapt support to respond to individual needs;
The course is delivered by Debbie Woodroffe who is Head of Training and Research for New Pathways. Debbie is a qualified counsellor and supervisor and is a registered social worker. She has a special interest in working with trauma and has personal experience of neurodiversity within her family.
Please note sessions are for a maximum of 16 delegates per session, and so it is advisable to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
