About this event

  • 6 hours

Neurodiversity. More and more people are using the word. Some with a depth of knowledge and lived experience. But for many, it’s still relatively new and comes with snippets of understanding pieced together from a wide range of sources that vary in reliability and helpfulness.

This day-long training will provide a coherent and therapy-focussed dive into neurodivergence.

After setting the scene as to why there’s ‘an explosion’ of neurodivergence and why different professions use varied language and approaches to people diagnosed as autistic or ADHD, we’ll take a deep dive into what a neuro-affirming approach to counselling looks like.

From law and ethics to being sensory-informed, this training will give you a more inclusive lens within which to explore how clients are experiencing the world - internally and externally.

There will also be the opportunity to ask lots of questions, share books and resources and get handouts with a variety of further signposting information.

Delivered by neurodivergent counsellors Kerry Berber and Clare Kingsbury.

Kerry is an integrative counsellor working in private practice with adults who are primarily neurodivergent. She is currently researching autism in the context of counselling at Bath Spa University, and is neurodivergent herself.

Clare works with children and young people as well as adults as an integrative counsellor in Weston-super-Mare. She also delivers more ADHD-specific workshops for counsellors, clients and parents.
