Description

The psychology of organisational and team communication

Understand the neurobiology you are triggering as you communicate in the workplace

People will only react positively to organisational communication if you have their trust and emotional proximity.

Communication from those with positional power in an organisation can all too easily evoke defensiveness, suspicion and even fear if it fails to draw people closer and to minimise specific sorts of ‘threat’. Leaders and managers must effectively mitigate for the power they hold by playing to important neurobiological and evolutionary mechanisms building safety and motivation.

Workplace communication and behaviour can have a significant impact on the vital body chemistry of teams and employees - with both immediate and long term effects on health and people’s ability to think, create and perform effectively. Neurobiological research shows that this is even more important than it may appear at first sight.

There are typically five core human or social needs that drive our emotional state and our behaviour. In this workshop, we show how regularly addressing these needs in your communication – especially in times of change and challenge – promotes positive emotive responses and a body chemistry that maintains higher level thinking and motivation.

Knowing what’s important in these five areas helps us flex our communication accordingly and to build trust and high quality relationships.

In this interactive workshop, we delve further into the social neuroscience that frees people to think, create and work at their best. We also introduce and practise simple and easy to use models (REACH) and checklists to incorporate into your daily communication.

Whether you are a communicator interested in organisational communications or a team leader focussing on interpersonal communication, this workshop will help you navigate the social triggers that can impact on creativity, engagement and cognitive performance at work:

Learn:

  • What drives our behaviour at both conscious and unconscious levels
  • How to communicate to appeal to positive emotions
  • Language that plays to important drivers of relationship, motivation and avoidance of threat
  • Antidotes to toxic organisational communication and behaviours

Join us on the 5th July and underpin your communication with an understanding of the neurobiology we all trigger
