New Approaches Seminar: Artists Making Features
To mark the start of the New Approaches artist development scheme, supported by Creative Skillset, Film London Artists' Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) will present a two-day event of talks and panel discussions, at the Wellcome Collection on Monday and Tuesday the 17th and 18th October. Each day will start at 09:30 and finish at 17:00, with an hour break for lunch.
This event follows on from the successful first New Approaches Seminar, held in March. Open to all experimental and artist filmmakers, the event will feature a series of filmmaker case studies and panel discussions exploring the development and financing of feature film projects and offering insight and guidance on reaching cinema audiences.
Producer Samm Haillay (Third Films); Script Writer Tony Grisoni; Mary Burke (BFI); Janine Marmot (Hot Property Films); Polly Stokes and Ben Coren (Film4); Artist Filmmaker Margaret Salmon; Mary Davies (Cross Channel Film Lab); Simon Field (Illuminations); Artist Filmmaker Anja Kirschner; Jo Blair (Picturehouse Cinemas) and Jezz Vernon (Port Royal London).
The New Approaches programme aims to support talented filmmakers from a contemporary fine art background who are working on feature-length productions. The scheme helps to bridge the gap in provision for artist filmmakers whose training may have been very different from those coming from a more traditional filmmaking background.
Aimed at those interested in embarking on feature length artists' projects for theatrical distribution, the two-long event will also include presentations by each of the artist participants of the New Approaches scheme – Rebecca Birch, Henry Coombes, Juan delGado, Esther Johnson, Melanie Manchot and Alia Syed.
This event will be particularly useful for artists making long-form video work or anyone with an interest in the intersection between fine art and cinema.
