The Cycle Superhighway between Leeds and Bradford is now open! The CS1 Superhighway is just over fourteen kilometres of segregated cycle route between Leeds and Bradford, running from Leeds city centre along the A647 to the new Broadway shopping centre right in the heart of Bradford. The CS2 Superhighway, which runs from Leeds City Centre to Seacroft is due for completion later this year.

The new cycleway links these two key cities providing people of all ages, ethnicities and status along the route with the opportunity to cycle and walk, away from the traffic. In the coming months and years Leeds and Bradford will see increased levels of walking and cycling. This will give the region best opportunity to become less polluted, have a healthier population, create a safer urban environment and improve the potential for economic growth through access to employment and training.

The scheme is part of CityConnect,which is funded through the Department for Transport’s Cycle City Ambition Grant and local match funding. This money is ring-fenced for spend on cycling and walking improvements. WYCA, together with local partners successfully bid for £40 million of Department for Transport funding in two phases, which is being used accross the region on a number of schemes.

The CS1 Superhighway design has incorporated changes in priorities along the cycle superhighway route, e.g. green surfacing, bus stop diversions, new approaches to junctions, shared use sections and some more changes.
