Event description

Description

A long walk re-tracing the steps of the legendary Heywood Sumner, from South Gorley to Pinnick, up to Sloden and back across Hasley.

This walk will re-trace an archaeological walk Sumner published in the Hampshire Field Club proceedings in the 1920s, entitled A Winter Walk in the New Forest, as he went on the hunt for new archaeological sites and re-visits some of his past excavations.

As well as following the exact route that this iconic New Forest resident took, we will also visit a number of other archaeological sites that have recently been brought to life through the use of high tech archaeological investigation techniques.

Over 16s only please on this longer walk.
