Event description

Description

Join Professor Alison Rowlands from the Department of History at University of Essex, for a talk on Landscape, People, Commemoration: working towards a New Geography of the East Anglian Witch-Trials.

Alison will share stories of witch persecution and trials in the area, while at the same time exploring our need to link historical events to specific places. To what extent does this accurately represent those accused and their accusers, and does it risk creating myths, distorting our understanding of actual events?

Looking at artwork, walks, and community projects commemorating the anniversary of the Lancashire witch-trials, Alison explores new ways communities, historians and artists can best situate the history of witch-trials into our local landscapes.

Free and open to all.

Places limited so booking essential.
