Description

New housing and public transport: making the connection

When new housing has good bus and rail links in place from Day 1, it's great news for residents and for the surrounding area.

  • Residents can enjoy a less car-dependent lifestyle, and people who don't drive are not disadvantaged.
  • Traffic, parking problems and air pollution are minimised, both within and beyond the development, and greenhouse gas emissions are kept in check.
  • New and improved bus and rail services can be routed to serve existing settlements as well as the new development.

But putting public transport in place to serve new developments can be challenging.

  • How can rail lines and stations can be built or reopened to serve new developments?
  • What features should be designed into new developments to allow high-quality bus services?

Our speakers will talk about these questions and more.

  • Jo Kaye leads the Network Strategy and Capacity Planning function at Network Rail
  • Nick Small is Head of Strategic Development and the Built Environment at Stagecoach
  • Jenny Raggett is lead researcher at Transport for New Homes

Come along and join in the discussion with a glass of wine and light refreshments.
