New Life For Empty Buildings - How Can Do Spaces Can Transform Our High Str...
Event Information
Description
Crieff Community Trust and Strathearn Artspace welcome Can Do Places and the Districts of Creativity Network to Crieff 22nd May 2018.
Crieff is not alone in its efforts to regenerate its town centre. Towns across Scotland face similar challenges and there are other community groups sharing our struggles. Want to find out more? Join us on the 22nd May for Can Do Places' practical workshop at Strathearn Artspace for anyone that wants to see their local economy and town, city or village thrive.
It will be engaging, interesting, useful and most of all - fun!
A Can Do Places and Spaces Workshop
-
6 billion pounds of property lies empty across Scotland.
-
48% of home based businesses plan to grow.
What if community groups turned empty buildings in to collaborative co working spaces?
This practical session tells you how to make it happen.
Is it easy? No
Is it worth it? Yes
Why?
-
Community groups generate an independent income for their trust or organisation.
-
Each Can Do Space is worth a minimum of half a million to a small town in Scotland.
-
Multiply that across Scotland's towns and that is a staggering £240 million to the Scottish economy.
-
2,000 new and growing businesses can be created.
So, bye bye, Woolworths, BHS, hello Can Do Spaces. Vibrant towns and communities where people make work together and everyone benefits.
This is a hands on practical workshop for anyone that wants to see their local economy and town, city or village thrive. It's for community activists, local authorities, MSPs, and those in economic and community development.

Format for the Day
We will be serving tea, coffee and scones from 10am with the workshop starting at 10.30am sharp. We will aim to be finished by 3.30pm.
“Once Upon A Time”
This is the first theme. It’s an opportunity to hear from our Can Do Places people about what they have done and why they did it. The style is completely informal and there’s ample opportunity to chat. This goes into the second theme.
“Clearing the Obstacle Course”
This part will pick up the main obstacles and how they were or were not cleared.
Weather permitting - apparently, it’s always sunny in Crieff - we will do a walk about to see the building that kick started the process in Crieff.
Notes - Refreshments on arrival and lunch are included in the price
