About this Event

The second China Research Group Seminar in this semester will be presented by Professor Junfu Li from Beijing University of Technology commencing at 12:30, 17th October (Thursday), 2019. His talk is entitled "New momentum for urbanisation in China: the motivation and effects of Chinese peasants' purchase of urban properties".

Abstract: At a new stage of urbanisation , a large number of rural households are purchasing properties in urban areas of China.

This paper identifies the trend and contributing factors of the phenomena; and examines whether this would have an impact on China's urban housing market.

The presenter will offer an understanding of whether such a trend would have social impacts on those who still hold peasant status but decide to buy urban properties; and whether this would affect the process of urbanisation in China

His research interests include migration and urbanisation; social stratification and integration and the development on China's housing market.
