Sat 29 April 2017, 09:00 – 16:00 BST
Are you aiming for a career in conservation or the environment?
Our New Naturalist programme may be just for you.
Discover habitats and learn skills whilst gaining the nationally recognised John Muir Award
The New Naturalist programme is designed for students aged 13-15, to gain skills and knowledge working in real natural environments. Students will be able to experience a number of different field skills and gain understanding of protected areas, landscapes, species and the role of the Northumberland National Park. The programme includes a multitude of topics from trapping small animals and insects alongside learning all about the environment of woodlands, mire and bogs, all at sites within the National Park. Sessions look at basic ecology, survey techniques and identification, with an emphasis on practical involvement, identification of common species and honing of observation skills helping students to attain a basic level of competency in Naturalists field skills.
The New Naturalist programme takes place over eight Saturdays in 2017 at the total cost of £40.00 (which equates to £5 each session). Note, for travel purposes, that whilst most sessions will be in different places throughout the Park, they will start at Rothbury. Travel from Rothbury to the proposed site will be organised for you. On completion of the whole course (all 8 Saturdays) the students will achieve the Join Muir Explorer Award.
