Event description

Description

To mark the release of Alan Hollinghurst's sixth novel, The Sparsholt Affair, the University of Surrey's School of Literature and Languages is hosting an afternoon symposium exploring the richness and depth of Hollinghurst's work.

Regularly described as one of the finest novelists working in the English language, Hollinghurst examines the boundaries between the knowable and ultimately inscrutable aspects of gay life in England through a ruminative return to the styles and influences of literary history.

Speakers include:

Free wine reception to follow. For any questions, please contact Allan Johnson (a.d.johnson@surrey.ac.uk)

Following the afternoon symposium, Alan Hollinghurst will be speaking about The Sparsholt Affair in conversation with Allan Johnson at the University of Surrey as part of the Guildford Book Festival. For ticket information for this separate event, please visit http://www.guildfordbookfestival.co.uk/alan-hollinghurst.
