Six half-day sessions, all at Gipsy Hill Leadership Centre, 188 Gipsy Road, SE27 9RD

Cost: £795

Lead Facilitator: Laleh Laverick, Executive Headteacher, Gipsy Hill Federation

This programme is designed to support leaders in their first or second year of a new senior leadership role. The programme may be suitable for either Deputy or Assistant Heads, depending on the leadership structure in place at their school, including those who are acting up in the role from middle leadership.

It will provide participants with:

  • A flexible combination of training and support to give participants the confidence to step up to whole-school leadership and the strategic insight they need to make impact quickly;

  • A comprehensive support package for the non-teaching aspects of your new role;

  • The  tools they need to have whole-school impact on teaching and learning, including the ability to give effective feedback and have conversations that hold staff to account.

Thursday, 6th October (1400-1700)

Leading the Organisation

  • Developing a whole-school presence and constructing an effective leadership persona; effective delegation; effective time management; outstanding learning environments; developing and refining effective whole-school routines.

Wednesday, 19th October (1400-1700)

Leading People

  • Preparing for the difficult conversation and giving difficult messages; managing the conversation itself and following it up effectively; coping effectively with being challenged in a public arena; handling difficult, time-consuming parents; developing resilience.

Thursday, 24th November (1400-1700)

Leading Teaching and Learning (Putting Data into Practice)

  • Understanding the range of data available and its uses; working with your head to present data transparently to colleagues and external stakeholders; supporting other staff to have the grasp they need of data; effective strategies to lead and co-ordinate an effective response to data, and the role of the Deputy within this.

Thursday, 2nd February  (1400-1700)

Leading Teaching and Learning (High-Quality Professional Development)

  • Observing effectively; giving and receiving effective feedback; ensuring your feedback has tangible impact; designing and facilitating an outstanding professional development session for your staff; maximising the impact of monitoring procedures.

Thursday, 16th March (1400-1700)

Leading the whole school (Statutory Procedures and Inclusion for Vulnerable Pupils)

  • Putting statutory procedures into action; effective provision mapping, evaluating interventions; tracking groups.

Thursday, 22nd June (1400-1700)

Celebrating the Journey

  • Lessons learned; reflection; identifying next steps.
