Event description
Join us in conversation with the two breakout indie horror directors of the year.

About this event

Shooting People members Prano Bailey-Bond (Censor) and Jennifer Sheridan (Rose: A Love Story) have made a screamingly bold entrance with two of the best debut indie horrors of the year. The pair will be discussing with SP's Cath Le Couteur, everything you need to know about making a successful indie horror. Including; how to make the leap from shorts to features; the collaborative process; securing funding & distribution; and of course, how to write a good horror. There will also be additional time for you to ask your direct questions.

Prano Bailey-Bond’s debut feature film, Censor, had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2021, opening the festival's Midnight section, before having its European premiere at the Berlinale. Described as 'one of the best horror films in years' (The Independent), Censor will be hitting UK cinemas on June 25th. Watch the trailer here.

Written and directed by Prano, Censor is a psychological horror set in 1985, against the backdrop of social hysteria surrounding video nasties. Prano brought together an incredible crew, including production designer Paulina Rzeszowska and editor Mark Towns who both worked previously on Rose Glass’s British indie horror Saint Maud, SP member and BIFA award nominated cinematographer Annika Summerson (Mogul Mowgli) and award winning composer Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch (Rocks).

‘Prano Bailey-Bond is definitely a director to pay attention to because if she can do this with her feature debut, I can only imagine what else she has up her sleeve.’ (Film Threat)

a filmmaker in full command of vintage horror’s most disturbing strengths — and well-equipped to resurrect them.’ (IndieWire)

Jennifer Sheridan’s debut horror feature is Rose: A Love Story premiered at the BFI London Film Festival and was nominated for the Raindance Discovery Award at the British Independent Film Awards. Jennifer honed her skills as a storyteller through her work as a self taught editor over the last twelve years (Credits include Cuckoo and League of Gentleman). Her debut short ‘Rocket’ won the Virgin Media Shorts Award in 2012. Her Sky Arts short ‘Love The Sinner’ was long listed for a BIFA and screened at the BFI London Film Festival. Her directorial debut fantasy series ‘The Snow Spider’ aired on CBBC.

Rose: A Love Story is both a chilling horror and a deeply moving love story, starring Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders) and Matt Stokoe (Misfits). Gripped by a violent, terrifying illness, Rose lives in seclusion with her husband deep in the forest. Rose has been described as ‘a striking debut,’ (Screendaily)‘a genre-bending, romantic horror story’ (evening standard) and ‘a darkly claustrophobic horror experience, which relies on heady atmosphere rather than immediate scares,’ (BFI)

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from two of the most exciting new voices in the industry, and to ask them any questions you have.

Please RSVP to confirm your place online. Attendees will be sent the private URL the morning of the Q&A.
