A live stream interview and your questions with the creative team behind the critically acclaimed feature film ROCKS.
About this event
We have now switched our New Shoots event on April 1st to a LIVE STREAM, and very much hope you can join us.
We'll be in conversation with the creative team behind the Toronto International Film Festival prize winning film ROCKS. SP's Cath le Couteur will be joined by the hugely talented Director Sarah Gavron (Suffragette, Brick Lane), Editor Maya Maffioli (Beast) and Casting Assistant Jessica Straker, who will give you direct insight into the making of their award-winning feature. The Live Stream will also mean a chance for you to directly ask your questions to anyone on the team.
Attendees have been sent the private URL but we are also hoping to live stream to our Facebook Page at 7pm.
One of the most hotly anticipated films of the year, ROCKS hits cinemas on April 10th. The film was uniquely crafted in collaboration with mostly first-time actors, who were cast from open calls in schools across London. The story was developed through extensive workshops with selected girls, who all come from differing cultural backgrounds and generously shared their experiences of growing up in the UK, adding to an incredibly authentic film. Gavron bravely shot in story order to help the young cast, and on multiple cameras which gave Maffoli the challenging task of editing down over 150 hours worth of footage.
The film follows teenager Rocks (Bukky Bakray) who fears that she and her little brother Emmanuel (D’angelou Osei Kissiedu) will be forced apart if anyone finds out they are living alone. With the help of her friends, she evades the authorities and navigates the most defining days of her life. ROCKS is a film about the joy, resilience and spirit of girlhood.
