Description

For the NEW SHOOTS summer event we’re thrilled to be welcoming BAFTA winning actress, writer & director Jessica Hynes and breakout star Alex Lawther to talk about their careers across the crafts.

Jessica Hynes is one of British screen comedy’s most familiar faces, perhaps best known for the award winning sitcom ‘Spaced’ which she co-wrote and starred in alongside Simon Pegg. Her string of successful roles in British TV include the much loved, dowdy neighbour Cheryl in ‘The Royle Family’ and the energetic PR consultant Siobhan Sharpe in the Cult BBC meta-satire ‘W1A,’ for which she won Best Female Performance in a Comedy at the BAFTA TV Awards. In May Jessica once again scooped the BAFTA TV Award for her performance in ‘There She Goes, and you can currently catch her in Russell T Davies' time-hopping series ‘Years and Years’ on the BBC. This year saw Jessica step behind the camera, with her impressive directorial debut feature ‘The Fight’, which she also wrote and starred in. Filmed entirely in Folkestone in just 12 days, it features Russell Brand and SP member Alice Lowe.

Alex Lawther has worked across television and film, and is the breakout star of the Channel 4/ Netflix series ‘The End of the F***ing World’ playing the young psychopath James. Alex starred in an episode of Charlie Brooker’s cult series 'Black Mirrorand gained critical acclaim for his role as the young Alan Turing in the Academy Award winning film ‘The Imitation Game,’ for which he won the London Film Critics' Circle Award for Young British Performer of the Year. He has recently starred in Toby MacDonald’s debut indie ‘Old Boys and has joined the cast of Wes Anderson’s next film ‘The French Dispatch’.

Join us for an in depth conversation with Jessica and Alex, ask questions and network with other film creatives. We will also be discussing our new Actors Competition- NEW SHOOTS: ACTORS.
