Description

This workshop will provide you with the skills to use reasonable adjustments and to maximise support for disabled employees.

Who should attend?
• Diversity and inclusion professionals.
• Employee relations managers.
• HR advisors.
• Equality managers.

Despite improvements, disabled people still face obstacles in employment. Disabled people are twice as likely as non-disabled people to be unemployed. Even if you do have a job, you are still likely to face a significant pay gap.
It is vital for employers and society in general, to be able to respond to the reality that 83% of the 13.3 million disabled people in the UK were not born with their disability.

The ‘supporting inclusive employment’ module looks at how employers can attract and retain disabled employees. This includes making effective reasonable adjustments, which is a legal requirement in the Equality Act 2010, in order to help disabled people achieve their potential in the workplace.

Objectives:

  • Discover the value of the Social Model

  • Identify the appropriate language to use in the UK

  • Identify how to interact appropriately with disabled people.

  • Identify how to make reasonable adjustments and remove barriers.

  • Identify on how to attract, recruit and retain disabled employees.

The session is interactive and encourages participants to think about various issues using a range of training methods, such as

  • Group discussions

  • Video work

  • Questionnaires

  • Action plans

This session will be facilitated by Madissa Asgari MA, BA (Hons)
