New to role English leaders

About this event

This event is aimed at new to role English leaders and delivered by English teaching & learning leads.

Our survey through SAfE indicated a significant number of new to role English leaders. Follow-up discussions with English leaders indicated that this training would be beneficial. Considering the challenges faced by English subject leaders since September 2019 in regard to COVID19, there is significant need for this programme to ensure that priorities for English leaders are in line with the needs of their schools.

Delegates will learn how to identify priorities for their school in response to research and their SDP, including constructing effective action plans and conducting monitoring. This will be structured around intent, implement and impact conversation. Actions will be generated with delegates, including Q&A to support, and follow-up evaluation will identify on-going need with schools for support. Training will also link to current research on effective leadership strategies and managing change within a variety of contexts.

The intended impact is that English subject leaders are more confident in their ability to enact purposeful change within their school and know the parameters/expectations for the work of the English subject lead.

As a result, the impact on pupil outcomes will mean that the English curriculum, planning, teaching & learning are all shaped to the needs of the school’s demographic and the English lead has a bank of strategies to implement and monitor this.

Resources will be available following the training, along with a ‘take away’ task. Evaluations will dictate if the school delegate feels more support is required.

Delegates will have access to advice following training.
