Event description

Description

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK with 1 in 7 women developing breast cancer during their lifetime. Whilst survival rates have increased, there is still a need to develop methods of detection and new treatments, which not only improve disease outcomes but also reduce the side effects of traditional cancer treatments. In this seminar, two leading experts will discuss their research into new approaches to treat breast cancer.

Alexandra Porter is Professor of Bio-imaging and Analysis, Department of Materials, Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London. Alexandra gained her PhD from Cambridge University where she also held the Oppenheimer Research Fellowship for physical sciences. She will present her research on the design of targeted nanodrug platforms, as delivery vehicles to treat and detect triple-negative and drug-resistant breast cancers.

Mitch Dowsett is Head of the Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research at The Royal Marsden. His talk will focus on new approaches to treating the tumour before surgery for breast cancer and the way in which this can personalise treatment.

Lunch will be served following the seminar.

All are welcome to attend.
